Spring has sprung! But why are we still sleeping?

by LMorris Email

Spring has definitely shown up in the Rocky Mountains! The ski resorts have closed for the season, snow is melting, crocus are blooming, and if the spring freeze hadn't come, my Crab-apple tree in the back yard would be in full bloom. I love that tree! It is a good size, beautiful flowers, and is the type where the fruit stays on the tree. No mess to worry about when mowing the lawn. Another big plus.

Another sign of spring are the various critters in the yard & trees. The birds are everywhere, singing and strutting their stuff. Even the squirrels and rabbits are exploring and enjoying the nice weather!

Squirrel in tree
The neighborhood squirrels have decided that the tree in my front yard is fun to explore. I'm not sure what this guy was looking for as the leaf buds aren't even out yet when I took this shot. They much prefer the Crabapple in the back yard. Good eating back there!

Follow up:

Rabbit in Yard
This guy decided to see what tasty treats were hidden in the backyard. That he (or she) probably ate everything over the winter probably didn't concern them much.

My cats have decided that spring is here too! Shedding is one thing you have to deal with when owning animals with fur. And since I have two and one is a long haired cat, I have twice the fun.

Figaro is the long haired Main Coone. For some reason, he isn't as interested in watching the rabbits or squirrels. Birds on the other hand are very interesting things! He is quite the character! Up is better, what is on something should be on the floor, and he is king of the house.

Figaro Posing
Here is Figaro posing nicely for his photo. I guess he was a bit jealous of the eBay things I was taking pictures of and wanted his chance.

Figaro Sleeping
Of course for him the regular cat nap is very refreshing and relaxing.

Theena is my avid outdoor watcher. She will sit at any window and watch what is outside. The ones where you don't notice her are even better. And if you can combine a spot of sun with the bird watching... Even better!
Theena at window
Here she had the opportunity to watch some birds in the back yard without them noticing her. She was there for quite some time!

She really is quite the friendly cat. Ok, only with myself and never when someone else is around. In fact, right here is the most that anyone will see her. She is rather shy and runs from the doorbell. She hates traveling in the car and lets me know about it with her Siamese half coming out in full voice!

And now that the flowering plum is in bloom and the lilac are starting to leaf out, we know that things are growing and getting on with life after winter.

So what does this have to do the rest of us sleeping? And I know you were wondering just that!

Spring is a season of growth and new life. We see that all around us. Planting flowers, crocus, tulips, and daffodils blooming, birds returning from their winter homes, and the sound of lawn mowers.

So why aren't we doing something with the rest of our lives to reflect that? We are in the perfect opportunity right now to start something going and growing. We can help out someone else or some other company. We can grow the world around us and help this struggling economy along. It doesn't take much. All you really need to do is look around.
Face looking

When you take a look at what is going on around you. Are you the one waiting for something to change?
person waiting
Because if you are, then I have this feeling that you are going to be waiting for a very long time. And what would happen if everyone did that very same thing?
I don't know about you, but I really don't like sitting back and doing nothing. Ok, yes. Like most everybody I do enjoy down time and relaxation time. What about though when you know there is something that needs to be done?

I'm talking about courtesy, helping someone, taking ownership, and jumping in when the job needs to be done. And I'm not just talking about the job that you go to every day from 9-5 or what ever your hours are. I'm talking about stepping up and helping out a friend.

Helping

They don't need to ask for help in order for you to offer help. What is the worst thing that could happen? They say no? So what, big deal. You know that you did the right thing. And what if they say yes? Great! You feel good, they feel good. And then they might offer help to someone else.

I guess it is time we all woke up and smelled the coffee, roses, or what ever cliche you want to use. Because if we don't start helping out and doing something, this down time we are all seeing will last even longer. And I don't know about you, but I really don't want to see that happen!

So I'm giving you permission and the opportunity to go out and do something you normally wouldn't do. Help someone out. It doesn't have to be much or even cost anything. But if you get out and do something, they likely will as well. And then step by step we might just get this economy of ours turned around and going in the right place.
