Life really is a box of chocolates

And, no, I am not just talking about the movie "Forrest Gump". But the line is really true. You don't know what you are going to get until you take that next step, bite, or leap. And even though last weekend was Valentine's Day, I didn't get any chocolate to spur this on.

Chocolate

My real thought here was that you really never know what life is going to bring you. I've seen the wonderful opportunity of trying to get my business started last year. (For me, definitely caramel filled!) The opportunities are fabulous! There is so much need out there! So, did I get the caramel filled that I really like? Or did I get the coconut that I just can't stand?

Well it seems this year that just about every business is in the same situation. The money... well it seems to have gone down the drain. drain

So, what happened? Pretty much everyone was thrown for a curve with the happenings of the last year. 88|

Some people just came up against a brick wall and just stopped. XX(
Brick Wall

Others panicked and fed off of the ones that stopped because of that brick wall.

Still others came up against choices and really didn't know where to turn. They never saw anything like this before. Ok, well most of us haven't.

I guess what bugs me the most is that there is so much doom & gloom in the media that we keep feeding off of it. It gets back to that piece of chocolate. We are afraid to take that next bite in the fear that it will be that flavor that we just can't stand.

Will it change? Oh it better! I'm tired of not knowing what direction we are all going... except maybe down.

So how does this relate to me over the last year? As I mentioned in a previous blog, I've had my ups and downs this last year.

And because being a service consulting, contracting kind of business you can't bring in money if no one is willing to pay it out. Am I giving it up then? No, not really. I am though putting it on the back burner for now. And like the rest of the millions out there I'm trying to find a job so I can actually pay the bills.

Am I hoping for the treasure chest at the end of the rainbow? I guess I am. Like so many others, right now it wouldn't even have to be very big to be a treasure. Am I re-thinking my priorities in life? Oh quite definitely!

Treasure Chest

I've definitely started taking those larger leaps and biting into that next piece of chocolate in life. And if life gives me that coconut one, well then I put that aside and reach for the next one.

So, where am I going in life? Right now things are getting organized, packed, cleaned, sold, and otherwise de-cluttered around the house. Will I have to sell it? More than likely I will. What then you may ask. I still need someplace to live and don't have money coming in. I'm fortunate enough to have my mom in town with a huge house that is more than big enough for the two of us. And even more fortunate that we get along extremely well!

Will things stop there? Of course not! That would be ridiculous. I've been doing ok selling some things on eBay and am expanding that into other things. My store there is Boulder Treasures so go take a look at what I've got for sale. Sign up for the newsletter and you will find out the new items that I will be listing.

And in addition I'm still doing the job hunt. What am I looking for? Well something in the rail industry is preferred only because I've got over 16 years in the industry. But that really isn't the only area. Because of the skills I've built up, I'm looking at things like a job in supply chain or logistics with any company. The industry really doesn't matter if you think about it. It is the skills and knowledge of the supply chain industry that are important and necessary. If you know of something, shoot me an email and let me know!!

Anything else? Of course there is always one more thing. I've still got the business going. So if there is someone out there that has some database, spreadsheet, business efficiency, budgeting, data analysis, invoice review, rail or car hire related work that just needs to be done, let me know. That's what my services are here to provide.

I do hope that you get your chocolate of choice in your endeavors in life. I would be interested to see how your roller coaster of a year has gone.
